The founding members of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) have issued a joint commitment to “support the responsible and human-centric development and use of AI in a manner consistent with human rights, fundamental freedoms, and our shared democratic values“.
The members are Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Slovenia, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and the European Union. Its secretariat will be hosted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development in Paris.
GPAI’s first focuses will be “Responsible AI”, “Data governance”, “The future of work” and “Innovation and commercialisation”. These have been areas of intense scrutiny for many governmental and inter-governmental organisations given the rising importance of AI. For example, The European Commission has over recent years published Ethics guidelines for trustworthy AI, On Artificial Intelligence – A European approach to excellence and trust, A European Strategy for Data and Future of Work, Future of Society.
