Above and beyond: Pride in our Batonbearers

As the Official Legal Advisers to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, we are incredibly proud of the ten people from Gowling WLG who have been confirmed to ‘take it on’ for the once-in-a-lifetime role as a Batonbearer in the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay during the England route

The Queen’s Baton Relay sees the Queen’s Baton travel around all 72 Commonwealth nations and territories that will compete at the Games, carrying a message from The Queen. For each leg of the journey, Batonbearers are required to help carry the Baton on its way around the globe.

The Batonbearers from Gowling WLG were nominated by their colleagues giving them an opportunity to recognise the individuals at our firm who make a really special impact on their colleagues, peers or community, meeting the Batonbearer criteria. We asked everyone at our firm to nominate the people who they felt should be involved and were most deserving of this special opportunity

The reasons behind their nominations are varied, some of them have gone above and beyond in their role or in supporting colleagues, others have made a positive difference in the community or to a cause close to their hearts.

Whatever has led them to being a Batonbearer, we are extremely proud of them and the impact that they make on our firm and its individual teams. To be able to recognise our people in this way, as well as with the other opportunities the Games offers has been a highlight of our work with Birmingham 2022. As we await the Baton’s return to England, we look forward to seeing the group enjoy this special experience that we are sure to remember for many years to come.
